April 06, 2018 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM
MH Foods is declaring April 6th as Crucolo Day, when the Cheese Department welcomes our annual arrival of this 385 pound wheel of cheese imported from Northern Italy. It's the biggest cheese west of the Mississippi! Join us for a parade and celebration with music, tastings and giveaways.
The parade starts on Friday, April 6th at 4pm on the Shafter Ave side of Rockridge Market Hall.
Crucolo is an artisanal cheese that comes from the Trentino region in northern Italy. The milk to make this cheese is selected from the cows that roam the pastures beneath the Trento Mountains. It is a soft cheese aged for over 60 days in the cellars of Rifugio Crucolo. This unique environment gives the cheese its particular taste and rich aroma.
Crucolo has a surprisingly tangy finish to its creamy flavor, not unlike a Swiss cheese, and the interior is irregularly pocked with tiny holes as well, but with a less aroma.
